Engine Running Video Clips
Audio & Video Recorded On-SiteClip 1: Cold Start / Fast Idle (~1,180 RPM)
38 secListen for the steady, rhythmic single-cylinder miss/skip at idle. The engine bottom-end is quiet—there is no rod knock, no timing chain slap, and no piston rattle.
Clip 2: Engine Warming Up / Settling Idle (~1,110 RPM)
46 secAs idle drops, the single-cylinder miss continues at the exact same rhythm with engine speed. This is a consistent single-cylinder drop (Cylinder #3), not a random multi-cylinder miss.
Steady Single-Cylinder Miss · Mechanically Sound Bottom End
The idle sound confirms a predictable, single-cylinder combustion miss consistent with a bad ignition coil, fouled plug, or oil leaking into the spark plug well on Cylinder #3. The rest of the engine is quiet with good mechanical sound.
Requested Checkout Steps for the Tech
Check Plug Tube for Oil
Pull Coil #3. Check the rubber boot for engine oil. On this 2.5L QR25DE, the valve cover tube seals leak oil into the spark plug wells over time.
Swap Coil #3 to Cylinder #2
Swap Coil #3 over to #2. Clear the code and check if the miss follows the coil to P0302. If it does, replace the coil.
Check Spark Plugs
Pull plug #3 and check gap and electrode wear. Vehicle has 178k miles; recommend replacing set of 4 NGK Laser Iridium (DILKAR6A11).
Check Injector / Harness
If the miss stays on #3 with a good coil and plug, check injector resistance (spec: 11.4 – 12.6 Ω) and harness wiring.
Tighten Battery Hold-Down
The metal battery bracket is disconnected and resting loose against the battery tray right next to the computer/ECM. Please bolt it down.
Clear Codes & Verify Dash Lights
Nissan disables traction control whenever there is an active misfire. Once Cylinder #3 is firing normally, the VDC OFF and Slip lights will turn off.
